I know it’s not the weekend but Alfie said that as he’d been writing the diary while I was in kennels I could do a day or two so he could have a break. Besides which he went to the vet’s last night and is on new medication and wanted to put his paws up until it all starts to take effect. I’ll be honest, my homecoming from kennels was a bit of a shock to the system. Wilma was so pleased to see me and we spent all yesterday morning wrestling. Shadow is still moulting and really looks quite a sight, although I don’t want to be the one to tell her. Alfie is grumpy as he was enjoying having fewer of us around, although our Mistress said he still wasn’t happy so what’s the difference.
Then there was my walk yesterday. Now I always go on the same walk. It’s not just that I am a creature of habit but the ground is softer on my legs and I like it. We set off yesterday my Mistress and I and got a bit of a surprise. We were expecting mud but we weren’t expecting horses. There they were as bold as anything standing in the middle of my footpath. I worked on the basis that they were much bigger than me and there were three of them and said to our Mistress would
she mind awfully if we went the other way. The problem with that was that it meant going on tarmac for the first part and my legs were hurting a little by the end of it. Then we went around the field the other way and only got part way before I looked at the puddle and said ‘You’ve got to be kidding!’ Now I know my legs are waterproof all the way up, but there really is no need to put that to the test on a routine basis. She had walking boots on rather than wellington boots so could see my point. I’m hoping the horses are only there as their usual place is waterlogged and that they will go back soon. Otherwise I’m going to have to rethink the whole walk strategy.
