Today is going to be a long day. I don’t usually have so much time on my own. Yesterday I was on my own in the morning, but then a friend came to see me for the afternoon. Today the same friend is going to come and see me for a short while, but I will have to twiddle my paws for quite a long time. It isn’t so bad. I tend to go back to bed and have a sleep until about 11 and then potter round and do a bit of reading. There are one or two things I want to try to get done while it’s quiet but relaxation always seems to come higher up the list than working. We’ve started plotting my Mistress’s new book and I said I’d do some of the research for her while she’s away. I’m wishing now that I hadn’t opened my mouth. The duvet is nice and warm and I can’t reach the switch to turn the central heating on so the house is a bit cold. It wouldn’t be so bad if the weather hadn’t turned cold. I’m in charge of looking after my Mistress’s seedlings too and I’m worried they may be dead before she comes back. I’ve tried breathing on them to warm them up, but I don’t want to overdo it. I don’t want to be accused of being the sort of dog that talks to plants.

I am a little bit jealous today if truth be known. The girls don’t have to be on the stand at Discover Dogs so I think my Mistress is taking them to Bradgate Park, which is her favourite place in the whole world. I know they will like it. I can’t remember if they have to stay on the lead, which to be honest with the deer would probably be wise, but it is definitely going to be fun.
