There are still important issues that the Pet Dogs’ Democratic Party needs to consider. One very important question is that of testing things on animals. I am all in favour of the advancement of science, but a dog should be given a free choice as to whether he is involved in such programmes and paid a good rate of pay, linked to the level of danger which is involved in the work. Take smoking for example. How many Beagles now have a 20 a day habit? How are they suppose to fund that habit when the research programme throws them out? It’s an important consideration. You see Beagles hanging round street corners with their paws shaking through the withdrawal symptoms and a hacking cough and it’s a giveaway that they used to work in scientific research. It’s not a good way to end your days.

Then there is make up and perfume testing. Now let’s be reasonable, you’d have poodles queuing up if you advertised vacancies in those areas, but for the rest of us it really isn’t the sort of job for a self respecting dog. Food testing I might be prepared to try, but it should be my free choice. No dog should be involved in any form of research without signing a form to say he is there of his own free will. He should also be able to leave whenever he choose, be paid well and have free medical care available for the rest of his life. There should also be compensation to his family if that life is shorter than it would otherwise have been. I guess the exception to this might be Jack Russells who are too annoying to be given any sort of free choice and come to think of it shouldn’t be given the right to vote either. I have a long memory and being attacked by a Jack Russell when I was a puppy, was a bad move for the breed!
