Tuesday 4th November 2014 – Learning German

Our Mistress has been very slowly learning German over the last few months. She has reached the stage where she has enough confidence to write some of the emails she needs to send. So far she has only written ones that are not really important…until yesterday. She had to send another email asking for permission of the right stud dog for Shadow for her mating in December and to give an idea when it would be. Now I can only hope that she got the email right and hasn’t said something really stupid. I shall let you know when she gets a reply! She has decided that to be on the safe side she is not going to rely on her snow chains but is going to put winter tyres on the car. She will still take her chains with her, but she thought the whole journey would be safer with tyres suited to cold weather. Shadow is pleased because she was worrying about the journey. She will be ok now as long as Shadow doesn’t start her season before the pantomime is out of the way. It feels like a bit of a countdown.  There are seven and a half weeks to Christmas. There are three and a half weeks until the pantomime is over and somewhere between the two Shadow’s season is likely to start. It’s going to be a crazy time.

One thing my Mistress is going to have to learn, relying on a stove for our office heating, is to light it some time before she is freezing cold. There is a time delay between setting fire to the firelighter and the stove giving out heat. Sometimes if she gets lighting it wrong, or the wood is not so dry it can be quite a bit longer than is ideal! Of course at the other end of the scale, she has not got the hang of not over heating the room either, so we end up going to sleep when we should still be working, but that’s a small price by comparison to being cold!
