Sunday 13th July 2014 – an awesome day

IMG_1411D’Artagnan would like it known that he had an awesome day yesterday. He had a walk from Georgetown which is a really pretty place that has not changed very much in 150 years, except for having been completely renovated. It was a gold and then silver mining town and was very prosperous in its day. It’s mainly abut tourism now, but yet again it was like walking into a movie set. Then he went up to the Guenella Pass which is at about 11000 feet and was spectacular. That’s where he sent today’s photo from. Incredibly there was a cycle race going on with riders starting from up there and cycling up and down several peaks, or at least as close to the peaks as the cycle lanes allowed. D’Artagnan said the riders must have been very fit as they say some of them were in Vail which is over 40 miles away only a couple of hours later and after some serious uphill stretches.

You will be pleased to know that after much asking round my Mistress was able to find a buffalo steak she could eat, but as it turns out it was not as good as the ones she gets from Hartley’s butchers back home. That was in a place called Idaho Springs which is yet another old town. There seem to be a lot of well preserved old Western towns that really haven’t changed much for a very long time. One of the problems of staying at a high altitude is that neither D’Artagnan not our Mistress have slept very well. She says that by the time she gets home she may want a day or two in bed, but I bet she won’t, as far as we are concerned that would be too good.
