We all sit as close as we can get to my Mistress. I don’t mean we sit around the room. I mean we position ourselves in a box shape around her feet on the floor with one of us on each side. It means that if my Mistress makes the slightest movement of her chair or her feet then one or other of us gets kicked in the process. It’s never deliberate and my Mistress can sit remarkably still for hours on end, but she does complain that she ends up with odd aches from staying in the same position too long so as not to hurt any of us. It would make sense if we gave her a bit more space but it’s not in our nature. Ideally we want to be touching her.
When my Mistress found that J K Rowling had written a crime novel under a pseudonym she was sceptical. When she started reading it she very quickly pointed out some of the ways that are giveaways it has been written by a woman. However, she hadn’t got very far when she concluded that it is brilliant and really very funny in places. There is a very British tendency not to champion the success of others but to try to find reasons for successful people to fail. I don’t know why that is, but well done to J K Rowling on proving what a good and versatile writer she really is. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised. I’ve already written about crime in writing Alfie’s Woods, although to be fair Hedgehog was a reformed criminal. My Mistress says if I’ve really good she will turn it into a paperback so that I can individually paw print some for my fans.
