Sunday 2nd June 2013 – What a day

Aristotle had a new bone early afternoon yesterday and then all of a sudden around 3.30 was take very ill. And I mean VERY ill. He couldn’t move and was just having diarrhoea where he lay and that is not normal for any dog. My Mistress rushed him to our vets where he had a full examination and it was decided that it was most likely that he had suffered a severe allergic reaction to something. He was given steroids and something to stop him being sick and some antibiotics and the vet took a blood sample. He started to perk up a bit but he was clearly very unwell. My Master had to lift him and carry him into the vets and back into the car to come home. The blood test showed that he was close to dehydrated and that there was some problem or other with his liver, but it’s all consistent with him being allergic to something. We’re just hoping that he keeps improving as he certainly had us worried. It probably means he won’t be going out to the Yorkshire County Show which was the plan for today. My Mistress said she’d wait to see how he was doing. I was looking forward to a quiet day at home but it looks as though that may not happen. Ah well.

What my Mistress did manage to do before having to rush Ari to the vet was to transplant her seedlings. She was in the middle of that when she heard a low level humming sound and at first thought it might be an engine. Then she had another thought. One of the stories she had read for her business involved bees swarming and she suddenly thought that it sounded how bees might sound when they swarmed. Sure enough in the corner of the garden were the thickest mass of hundreds of bees swarming. She ushered us all inside as quickly as she could to make sure none of us were in the paths because it can turn nasty if you are. We had to wait about half an hour before she thought it was safe to go back out. When my Mistress called my Master to see, you could tell by the look on his face that he thought she was exaggerating, but then he saw what she was pointing to and conceded that maybe, just maybe, on this occasion she was right.
