I am interested to note that the authorities in China are trying to clamp down on people going out wearing their pyjamas. Is this a sign that they have run out of important issues to deal with, or have they simply parked the real issues on the ‘too difficult’ pile and are now going for soft targets. Pyjamas are clothes, what’s the problem? There was a period where celebrities went out wearing dresses that were really underwear and because it was fashion everyone said that was ok, although half the time it was practically indecent. What have they got against pyjamas? You get can some nice stripy ones and ones with Snoopy on, perhaps I should introduce some to the Alfie Dog range. I may have mentioned before that I found some great explanatory notes on the internet of what constituted a pair of pyjamas for VAT purposes as they are taxed differently and maybe that is the problem in China. If the tax on pyjamas is lower then you don’t want people avoiding paying tax by going out in their nightwear, it would offend the treasury.

I am proposing a national “Go to work in your pyjamas day” to raise money for anyone except the Government. Slippers are of course optional but I do tend to think they can set the pyjamas off quite well. This could be a whole new opening for the fashion labels. How long would it be before you saw the first pair of Burberry pyjamas on the street, or ones with a Gucci label? Does Jimmy Choo design slippers? If not it’s time he started. I should just point out that even if you’ve stuck a Prada label to them those checked nylon slippers will never be fashionable, I hope!
