My mistress was decidedly cheered by receiving a dozen red roses yesterday. She even gave one of them to me so that I didn’t feel too left out. Mine tasted ok but she hasn’t actually eaten hers yet, perhaps she is saving them for later.

As a dog there are few things quite as stressful as being taken out in the car, strapped into your car harness in the front seat and with the door and window closed finding a cat jumping on the bonnet right in front of you to benefit from the engine’s warmth. There you are on the inside, there is the cat on the outside and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Oh you can howl and whine but what you really want to do is swipe it with your paw. Swiping the dashboard is not satisfying and if you press your nose against the window the cat laughs at you and your mistress gets cross for the mess you have made of the window. I think the cat was well aware of my imprisonment, they can be quite cruel to us dogs at times. I really can’t see what humans see in them as companions. They are arrogant, independent and condescending and those are just their good points.

I have spent the last couple of days, at intervals, creeping up on the bath to check it isn’t going to attack me again. My coat is lovely and shiny and I couldn’t help but admire myself in the mirror but did the whole process have to involve all that water? It just isn’t natural for a dog to get into clean water. Having said that it was clean for very long, I lost a lot of my hard won mud in that water the other day. It is going to take some time to really get that amount back between my paws again.
