I was very concerned last week to hear the leader of Plaid Cymru saying that it would only take £1.2bn to get the best out of Wales. Firstly, where exactly are they expecting to find that sort of money? Secondly, I’d just like to point out that it would only cost a handful of dog biscuits and the odd scratch behind the ear to get the best out of the dog population. It strikes me that would be money much better spent.
Apparently this is National Pet Month. Now, I’m not really sure what that means or how you should interpret it. I guess if you don’t have a pet it’s probably time to get one and if you do it’s time to spoil them rotten. Of course, if you don’t have a pet and want to spoil someone else’s the I am available for stroking, cuddling and tummy rubs. I’m also willing to be offered treats but you need to watch your fingers as I can get a bit enthusiastic particularly if it smells really good. To my way of thinking ‘pet’ makes it sound a little bit too generic. I’m sure your average hamster doesn’t want to share its month with tarantula for example and actually, to be honest, neither do I! Anyway, I’m interpreting it that you need to spend all month spoiling us rotten and making us feel as though we are your first priority. Give us love and attention. Allow us to sleep on the bed and sit on the couch and generally do what you can to improve our lot. Of course by the end of the month we will have got used to it, so don’t go thinking that in May things can go back to the way they were because that just isn’t the case. It wouldn’t be fair.
