Walking with Shadow – Monday 16th August 2021

Walking with Shadow

Walking with Shadow is so much less exciting than walking with me. For one thing Shadow doesn’t want to go very far. She’s finding the ground in the field quite difficult and on some occasions is plonking herself down outside the gate and refusing to go in. She has told me there are some thistles underpaw which can be very annoying and there are holes she keeps falling down. I told you yesterday that she has found some fox poo. Now she’s fed up as Mum is making her go to a different part of the field instead.

How boring is this?

Now I know she’s old, but how boring is this? There was a deer in the field and Shadow didn’t even try to chase it. Can you imagine ever getting to the age where you ignore an opportunity like that? She just looked at it. Ok, so it was the other side of the field and it’s a very long time since she’s run as far as that, but she could at least have tried. I know Ari wouldn’t bother, but he’s Ari – he doesn’t chase things. Shadow’s the dog that used to lie in wait for birds in the back garden and even brought one in for Mum on one occasion. I’m guessing Mum won’t give me the chance to chase the deer when I’m there, but Shadow could probably have got away with it.

The week ahead

I’m planning a quiet week – just the usual playing with other dogs, pouncing on Aristotle, that sort of thing. Shadow says she’s happily settled with Mum but wishes they didn’t have to go out in the car as she’s really not keen. She won’t say what it is she doesn’t like about it anymore. She accepts it when Mum insists but she’s really not keen. I guess at her age she just wants a quiet life.

Love
