You have to admire our Mistress’s cunning plans at times. She always buys lots of sweets for Halloween. However, we live on a narrow country lane, with fields on one side, no street lamps, no pavements and very few children who can face calling at our house after dark. Now you’d like to think she buys all the sweets because she’s a nice person and would love all the children to be brave enough to call. Of course on that note, having our Master making scary noises from the kitchen when they do call may not help, and that’s when you don’t think about the four of us barking. Anyway, the truth is, she buys lots of sweets so that she can eat them all! Since around 8.30 on Monday evening when she concluded there were unlikely to be any more callers, she’s been steadily ploughing her way through a very large bowl of chocolates. Someone really should stop her! In terms of the number of people who call, it doesn’t really help that no one can actually find our doorbell and you can’t hear the door knocker unless you are sitting right by the door!
The lengths that Wilma will go to in order to sleep as close to our Mistress as possible while she’s working are impressive. Even I wouldn’t choose a position which involved wedging myself around the leg of the desk! They both like it if they are actually touching and when Wilma gets into bed with our Mistress she does that thing I used to do when I found curling up around our Mistress a comfortable position. Once she gets into place both of them just gently let out a sigh of contentment before drifting off to sleep. Of course, I wish it were still me doing that, but it’s cute listening to the two of them. Oddly I don’t feel jealousy when it’s Wilma.
