Monday 19th October 2015 – A Happier Dog

I’m a much happier dog today. I slept next to our Mistress for the first time since the puppies have been born and got into bed with her for a cuddle this morning. It’s amazing how much better my day feels as a result. Shadow insisted in sleeping nearby, which did cause me stress and I needed to go out to the toilet in the night, but if she doesn’t attack me for a few days I’m sure I’ll relax a little bit. Aristotle isn’t paying much attention to his brother and sisters yet. He has a bit of a sniff, but nothing major. He says until they start playing and taking more notice of what’s around he doesn’t find them that exciting.

Cleaning the pen out takes about half an hour a day. Our Mistress has washed her hands so much that her eczema has started and she has a plaster over a split in one finger. You have to wonder why she does it, but she says you only have to watch the little puppies growing day by day to see the answer to that. She also has to takes bags of rubbish to the tip almost every day which yesterday resulted in a dreadful situation. She has been having a spring clean of all our dog beds. She had to move some of them because they were in the way in the office. Anyway, she has declared some of them past repair and taken them, together with some of Ari’s old bones, to the tip! Can you imagine how we felt watching perfectly good remnants of dog beds we have loved being taken away? It wasn’t a good moment. It’s probably worse that all the ones we have left are clean as they have been through the wash. What is the woman thinking?

Anyway, back to the pups. They only woke once in the night and are all now happily eating their Orchard Chicken baby food. Our Mistress will leave the menu unchanged today but then start decreasing the amount of milk in the food from tomorrow and it won’t be long before she starts adding puppy food into the mix. Shadow is still doing much of the cleaning up after them and feeding them after every meal, which is great and she will do that for a while yet. The longer she does the cleaning up the less poo there is for our Mistress to sort out!

Weight gains were good again. D’Artagnan had a day to consolidate all that he’s added and only went up by 50g to reach 2590g. Della also had a slower day adding 70g to reach 2390g. Duchess had a bit of a growth spurt adding 145g to reach 2295g and Dixie had a good day adding 100g to reach 2235g.

They will be having a quiet day today. Our Mistress says she may let them sleep a little longer so we can get down to 5 meals a day rather than 6. I’m not sure what they will have to say about that.
