Yesterday I was a bad dog. Usually it’s Aristotle but yesterday was definitely me. We’d gone for a walk. To start with, I wasn’t in the mood. It was cold and I’d got a fireside to sleep beside, but that’s no excuse for what followed. We saw Bonnie the Boxer. Now to say that rivalries between ourselves and Bonnie are longstanding would be an understatement. It goes back years. Nothing very much, just the usually little acts of aggression. Shadow always pees outside her house if she gets to walk past, that sort of thing. I’m guessing Bonnie probably does much the same when she walks past ours. Bonnie is very strong as are we. With my Mistress she’s lovely and soft but that doesn’t impress me. Anyway, there we were walking along when we saw her coming the other way. Now normally, our Mistress is very alert and seeing that would have made sure she had reeled me in on my extending lead and then she makes me walk right up close. Yesterday I saw Bonnie first. I had that split second advantage when I was able to tug my lead out of our Mistress’s hand and leg it down the footpath to where Bonnie was. Bonnie’s owner did very well. I was being a very annoying dog, or so I am told, barking madly from just far enough away not to come into contact. I have never seen our Mistress run so fast as she came charging down the lane to take me in hand. She was very embarrassed by my behaviour, while it has to be said, Bonnie was as good as gold and did not rise to the challenge. It was probably a good job, as if truth be known she scares me, but then most dogs do. Needless to say I’m grounded and have been given the opportunity to think about my behaviour and how inappropriate it was. I’d just like to publicly say, I’m sorry and I won’t do it again. Of course, I may not actually mean that last bit. I am sorry, but I suspect I’d do it again tomorrow if they opportunity arose!
