Wednesday 27th August 2014 – Shadow

Well Shadow had a temperature and colitis and was not feeling too good at all when she went to the vet. She had to have two injections and said she was really sorry she’d found dead things to eat on her walk the other day. It’s so easy to be wise after the event. You smell a dead animal and before you think about it you’re automatically wondering what that dead animal might taste like. It’s a downside of living in the country. You don’t stop and ask yourself ‘what did that animal die from?’ you’re in there without a second thought, until our Mistress catches you and then there’s trouble. Anyway, Shadow is being allowed a little of the special food that is gentle on her tummy and has some special water to drink, although she is refusing that. She’s also got some probiotic paste to help put things right. She’ll be back to her bossy self before we know it. In the meantime it is a bit quiet. Ari is sulking because he hasn’t got a playmate and I’m sulking because she’s taken my bed so she can be close to our Mistress while she’s working. I’m just hoping that once she’s better I get my bed back as it’s my special one that I’ve had since I was a puppy.

My Master has been accusing my Mistress of making us the most spoilt dogs in the world. I really don’t think that’s fair. I’m sure there are little lap dogs that are treated in a far more revered fashion. He doesn’t think we need as many beds around the house, or to be able to monopolise the cushions and settee. We did remember to leave him room to sit down, ok maybe he couldn’t stretch out because we were lying there, but that happens in all households with dogs. It really isn’t just us…is it?

  2. No, Alfie, it is not just you. I know a German Shepherd who loves to catch his human napping on the sofa and lie down atop the human, who wakes up by and by and wonders why he has no feeling in his feet and can’t move his legs.
