Monday 9th June 2014 – Low flying planes

My Mistress decided to waterproof her top and trousers yesterday, whilst it was fine and she didn’t need them. You would think that was a straightforward process, but as it turned out it wasn’t. She hung them on the clothes line outside and then sprayed them from the bottle of waterproofing. The first problem was that the wind was in the wrong direction, so at best we now have a waterproof human. The second problem was that she read the label after she’d finished spraying and it said it was suitable for all types of ‘shoes and boots’. Trousers and a top do not in my book count as shoes or boots. She has no idea whether it will have worked or whether she has used totally the wrong stuff. It just goes to prove that the right order is to read the label first. She shrugged and said it had worked on her boots the other week, so she thought it would be fine. ‘Boots,’ I said, hoping she might understand without my having to explain.

When we went for our walk yesterday the point we normally turn round was curtailed slightly by low flying aircraft. Now I know I go for a walk on the airfield so you might expect that, but it was only an airfield during the Second World War. It was taken over, having been farmland, and went back to being farmland afterwards except the runways which are concrete and great to walk a dog on when it’s wet. Anyway, there is also a beautifully kept lawn the size of a small field which is used by a model airplane club and they were all out flying yesterday. It is amazing to watch them … from a distance! If you get to close it gets rather disconcerting when they loop the loop right above where you are trying to walk.
