Now when you clean something you expect the end result to be in some way, well, cleaner! Not so it seems. My Mistress has had someone come to clean the oven. It’s a thankless task and not one I was going to volunteer for. The last person who cleaned it gave rise to the repair man who came to see us a couple of weeks ago and then again last week to put right what hadn’t worked first time. Anyway, the newly repaired oven was duly cleaned on Tuesday and yesterday was the first time since then that the oven part was going to be used. All I can say is that it is a very good job that my Mistress did not use the timer and set it to come on while she was out. I haven’t seen smoke like that since the unfortunate log fire incident a couple of months ago. Needless to say the smoke alarm went off and at that point we all scarpered and left my Mistress to work out what to do next. She did the only thing she could think of. She opened all the windows to let the existing smoke out and then heated the oven up in instalments, letting the smoke out every five minutes, until eventually an hour later there was no more smoke and she was able to use the oven. It was an hour wasted but thankfully no real harm was done. There is just one small problem – it is a double oven and she still has the other side to deal with. I think she may at least wait until it’s sunny rather than raining so that having all the doors and windows open is not quite such a problem.
