It seems running a book stall and smiling at people all day is very tiring. Although it was a good day, between the early start and having to talk to lots of strangers, my Mistress was very tired. She said that it was the silly questions that got her most; such as people asking her about the books being sold by other publishers. At one point she considered making up answers just to satisfy them. Then there were the people who said they were looking for second hand books ‘Don’t you have any second hand books?’ To this my Mistress replied politely but in her head was saying ‘Does it look as though I have any second-hand books?’
We had to result of Shadow’s progesterone test and everything is exactly as expected. My Mistress will set off as planned on Tuesday and have another test when she gets there on Wednesday. Now she just has to get on with preparing for that. I helped making the oat cereal last night. I mainly did the clearing up of the bits that fell on the floor, but it’s an important job and someone has to do it. I’m less prepared to help with the packing, so I thought it best to offer to help with this.
I am alarmed by the fungi growing in our garden. The situation is getting out of hand. We regularly have some in the lawn but this year it IS the lawn – the whole lawn is fungus. There are ones growing at the base of plants and everywhere. I’m guessing it’s because the water table is so high, but I don’t really understand. It never used to be like that. That is unless the wildlife are planting them as a crop and just not asking permission first.
