Not an obvious title for a Sunday and no it doesn’t mean that Shadow’s season has started yet, but my Mistress has started her on the ‘Fit and Fertile’ in preparation. Why? You might ask, does it matter from my point of view that she has started on her Fit and Fertile? She has the powder mixed in a couple of teaspoons of vanilla yoghurt. Shadow and I have our breakfasts together and because I just love vanilla, my Mistress always lets me lick the spoon. On her off days when Shadow doesn’t feel like breakfast I get her fit and fertile too, not that it has much impact beyond the fit in my case.
My Mistress pointed out that the old adage that it’s no good shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted is all well and good, but she’s kept the doors shut and it hasn’t stopped the fennel from bolting. I said maybe that was the problem and if she’d have left them open they wouldn’t have felt the need to bolt. Either way that’s another failure in the organic vegetable crop. It seems success has been entirely limited to carrots and parsnips or more accurately parsnip! It may be that’s all we try growing next year and see if we can be more successful.
The girls went for a lovely run yesterday, making the most of the stubble fields before they get ploughed. They ran and ran. Shadow says she wants to be fit for pregnancy and Megan is more like a greyhound the speed she runs. My Mistress wants to know how it is she walks as far as Megan but still can’t run across a field, let alone back and forth non-stop. I didn’t like to point out the age difference or the number of legs difference for that matter.
