Monday 16th September 2013 – The robins are in the lead

Shadow has asked if before I say anything else, could I please wish her human a very happy 18th birthday and tell him she can’t wait to see him tomorrow.

I don’t really think it is the robins in the lead, it’s just the robin food that has needed to be restocked first. We seem to have an extended family of sparrows who have moved in. There are about fifteen of them all happily flitting between the different foods, so much for them attracting different varieties of birds. There are some great tits too but we are waiting to see a more diverse range taking their turns. One side effect is that the noise level in the garden has gone up a decibel or two. They keep chirping. I’m not sure if it is when they are saying ‘this one has a free space’ or by the sound of it more something along the lines off ‘Push off, it’s my turn. You’ve already had a go,’

We’ve already had enough of the cooler, windy autumnal weather and are ready for summer to return. Oh it looks nice when the leaves change colour and I do like kicking my paws through the dead leaves, but I prefer to feel the sun on my fur and be able to have the back door open so we can wander in and out as we please. It doesn’t help to know this is only the beginning of the bad weather and it will be months before it improves. I’m sorely tempted to have a word with some of the birds to see if they could give me a lift south for the winter. I’m not sure exactly how many sparrows it would take to carry me. I’m only 28.5kg at the moment so I’m in good shape. I could flap a paw every now and then to see if it helps with the flying. I wouldn’t go without my Mistress and I think they might find her a bit heavy.
