Saturday 14th September 2013 – Whatever Makes You Happy

If only the friends who bought the house bird feeder knew what they had started. My Mistress has always been keen on feeding the birds and I must admit I have always been one to encourage her as I like the bits they drop for me. She has over the years learnt that fat balls need to go in a shady spot as they melt in the sun and that the sunflower growing in the blueberry plant tub may not be a complete coincidence. In recent months she has cut down on the bird feeding partly because Shadow has a different view of the birds in the garden and considers them fair game. Now things have changed. Stern words have been had with Shadow and she knows she is to leave them alone. My Mistress has restocked the main bird feeder with lots of different varieties of food to suit every taste. One holder has sunflower seed, one has s mix which apparently is very much liked by robins, one has nyjer seeds, one has a general mix and one has peanuts. I am planning to sit quietly underneath the feeders, on dry days, to see what they pass my way. At the moment the main feeder is in a good position for the birds as it is close to a bush to give them some shelter to escape to, but the problem is that my Mistress can’t see it easily from her window. She’s thinking the next step will be to move both the feeder and the bush into a better view!

Today I am doing my company role as figurehead and going to meet one of our authors. I don’t often get direct involvement in company matters even though it is in my name, so today is very special for me. My Mistress is trying to organise a book launch for her new book that’s coming out and I’m hoping to be included in that but I’m not certain I shall be able to. Partly it depends where it is.
