From now on the term ‘playing pigeon’ will be used to mean following a dare. I told you the other week we’d had a pigeon in the office. Well the problem is that he seems to have gone back and dared his friends to come in. Of course it could have been the same one coming back for another visit but all things considered that would be a little ill-advised. This time my Mistress was a little more organised and gave the command for us all to back off at the same time as reaching for the towel to pick up the pigeon. It was fortunate that he chose to settle on a windowsill which did not have breakables on it as he flapped everything off onto the floor, and with the exception of the shield on one of the knights trying to slay the dragon, everything was fine. The dragon belongs to my Mistress the knights are my Master’s. She prefers to position them so the dragon can breathe fire at the horrible knights and melt their swords, but I digress. My Mistress once again wrapped the pigeon in the towel and carefully took him to the open window, gave him a minute to catch his breath after the excitement and then let him fly off. The thing that made me think it was a dare was the celebratory lap of the garden he flew before finally settling on the conifers. I’m guessing he or one of the others will be back before too long.
Today is the unveiling of the vegetables. They have now got so big that the cover will have to come off and we just have to hope that they animals don’t eat them before we do. It looks as though the purple sprouting broccoli is ready as well as the peas so today is a big vegetable freezing day. I’m not sure what is involved in blanching, I always thought it was making something white, but that would rather defeat it being called purple sprouting broccoli.
