Monday 1st July 2013 – the second half of the year

The nights are drawing in, it is closer to next Christmas and new year than it is to the last and summer hasn’t even got off the ground yet. I’m beginning to see why the Brits get the reputation for both talking non-stop about the weather and for moaning. We’ve got ample reason to do both. Ok, so we don’t have constant darkness through the winter. Nor do we have famine and drought but what we do have is constant depressing miserable weather. I think that vitamin D should be prescribed to the UK population as a matter of course in an attempt to cheer them up. Either that or household bulbs should be designed in such a way to replicate sunlight to make us more cheerful indoors.

My Master and Mistress went to visit friends at the weekend and didn’t take us with them. All we got was the opportunity to give them a good sniff when they came home. It’s amazing what you can tell by a sniff. It’s a bit like a human can tell when another human has eaten garlic or curry or drunk alcohol but on a much bigger scale. There’s not a lot you can hide from your pets. We always start with checking if you have been unfaithful with anyone else’s pets and then work outwards from there. Food, perfumes, flowers, other people – anything you have been in contact with is analysed in detail to see if we have missed out on anything important. Once we’re happy we haven’t we can relax again. It’s when we find you have been to see some of our favourite people without us – that really hurts, although having been fussing another dog is far worse – far far worse.
