Megan is alternating between excitement and worry at her forthcoming adventure. ‘What should I pack?’ she asked wandering round the house in a bit of a daze. She’s taking her own bed and bowl and her harness and lead and a few bits to remind her of home. My Mistress has promised to send her anything she forgets and to go to see her regularly. She just won’t be able to come home during that time as we want her to be apart from Shadow. Shadow just shrugged and said she didn’t know why everyone was blaming her, but that was just before she glared at me and took my chew away.
We’ve been having the back door open, or at least half of it. My Mistress doesn’t want to give Aristotle free run in the garden until the netting is over the vegetables. Anyway, the problem of having windows and door open is that we’ve all got used to it being very quiet and we’ve all been jumping at the slightest noise outside. We are taking our guarding duties seriously and really winding my Mistress up. That’s the problem with 4 of us. She calms one of us down but by then another one has started up. We work a bit like a ‘round’ in singing where there are different groups singing the same thing at different times, except we aren’t exactly singing. My Mistress ended up closing all the windows yesterday just to get us to settle down again.
I think summer is over. A couple of lovely days is as much as we can expect for one year. It’s a shame as I wouldn’t mind the winter so much if it stayed nice during the summer. Just as I was really getting into sleeping in a sunny spot the sun goes in.
