Yesterday life was improved by the arrival of a little bit of sunshine without the accompaniment of a cold wind. I won’t say it exactly cheered my Mistress up but she wasn’t quite as gloomy. We all went out to survey the vegetable trough. At this stage it is a case of surveying about 40 parts of vegetable trough, but it was a start. Now the task is to assemble the parts in the right order so that it doesn’t end up lopsided. There are so many screws that it recommends the use of an electric screwdriver and with my Mistress’s duff hand that is probably an essential. There is just one very tiny problem. We do own an electric screwdriver, in actual fact we own two. It’s just that neither of them exactly work! They are both these cordless rechargeable ones that have lost the will to recharge. So other than surveying the parts the project went back on hold until my Mistress can buy a new electric screwdriver. She wants an old fashioned one still attached to its cord!
We did manage to have the door open for a couple of hours in the afternoon too, which had two advantages. For my Mistress it meant being able to listen to birdsong while she worked and for us it meant being able to run in and out whenever we pleased. If I’m being honest that last point is more a theoretical benefit for me as I’d rather be indoors with my Mistress than outdoors without her. There was one disconcerting point in the day when I was having a lovely nap, only to find Aristotle join in and use me as a pillow. We have cushions for heaven’s sake – why couldn’t he have used one of those?
