For those of you in other parts of the world today is our national day – St George’s Day. For those of you in England who didn’t know that, shame on you. Of course you can be forgiven in some ways as do we have a national holiday? No. Are there parties and celebrations? No. It is just like any other day and without the excuse of the Irish St Patrick’s Day when at the very least people do have a pint or two in celebration.
We think there are wrens nesting in our next box. My Mistress has seen them going in and out, but that was a few days ago and she hasn’t seen any activity for a few days. I said maybe it was just one wren being shown round by an estate agent wren, but my Mistress didn’t look convinced. I’d sit outside and watch properly but it’s been a bit cold for that. At least they aren’t like the blackbird that has offered his services as a handyman. More to the point it’s a her and it would be a handybird. Anyway, for whatever reason she has been clearing out the gutter above the back door. It’s immensely helpful but a little offputting if you are standing underneath when a bundle of rotting leaves is thrown down. The paving outside the back door is a mess with all she has thrown down. I just don’t understand why she is doing it. I would have guessed nest building but she doesn’t seem to be carrying any away, just throwing it out of the gutter and onto the floor.
Megan wasn’t very well again yesterday. She had a bug last week which we thought she had got over, but yesterday she was feeling lethargic and down and not eating, which is really not like her. My Mistress said if she was still like it later today she will take her back to the vet.
