Earlier we hadn’t got the camera handy unfortunately, but when Dickens was having some blanket time he seemed to think it was his mum and start to try to suckle the blanket and use his paws to stimulate the milk. When he couldn’t get any, he simply nuzzled his nose deep into it and went to sleep. He’d moved by the time we took this photo, but it had been so lovely to see how content he was. He’s going to live with 2 Beagles and something tells me they are going to get along just fine.
We didn’t get through the night again, although it was 5am when the puppies started to shout. The problem was that they kept shouting and playing after they’d eaten and my poor Mistress wasn’t coping very well. The good news is that after that we all slept until 7.30 when the puppies started shouting for a second sitting of breakfast. My Mistress is now leaving a bowl of softened but not blended biscuits in with them so they can have a nibble between meals. In a few days she will stop putting their regular meals through the blender and will start putting down dry biscuits for a snack, but one step at a time.
Weights were mixed this morning. Beija did well adding 110g to reach 2800g –even last year’s heaviest didn’t reach that for another 2 days and the lightest another 5 days. Basil who is fast becoming the leading character of the pack and the one who invents the new games, added 60g to reach 2950g. Britannia, who is becoming more gentle and beautiful by the day and who my Mistress can’t resist cuddling every time she asks as she asks so nicely, added 80g to reach 3kg. Tucker however only added 20g. He’s a healthy 3090g and was probably just consolidating after a big jump the day before, but we’ll keep an eye on him. That means Dickens is out in the lead having gained 90g he has now reached 3180g. He’s about 4 ½ days ahead of last year’s heaviest now.
