I did go to the vet yesterday afternoon and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. Yes, my anal glands were blocked, but thankfully not infected. However, my Mistress said I had been feeling off colour so I was given a thorough examination. I was less than thrilled to hear that my heart murmur has got worse. It’s moved up a grade. Apparently there are no other signs of their being anything wrong, but that was one more sign than I was looking for. I have come home an unhappy dog. On the other paw, I do have my Mistress’s undivided attention so there are some minor bonuses.
You should have seen the pack of things that Dickens received from his future family. He’s got toys as well as a blanket and a fleecy hat. He had some time with them this afternoon. It wasn’t long, but it was long enough for him to be introduced to the smells. I took a picture of him for you.
Then we got a phone call from the Kennel Club about the registration papers for the puppies. All is well except Boadicea. Apparently there is another dog registered whose name would be too close to hers. Well as it happens that’s perfect as her new name is going to be Beija, which also begins with B. We asked the nice lady if she could be Torfheide Beija and that was just fine, so it isn’t just her pet name, it’s her real name as well.
We are starting to move the puppies onto puppy food. On the whole it is going well. I’ve been told by my Mistress I can’t have any more leftovers as she’s even more keen to keep my weight down after the news from the vet. From tonight they are being offered one bowl of just puppy food separate from the mixtures. Over the next few days the other ingredients in the mixtures will be phased out so they are completely on puppy food and water. What we can’t decide is what order to remove the other ingredients in. I think the baby rice is going from tomorrow morning. One thing I will say is that since we removed the replacement milk they have been pooing an awful lot better. It just means more clearing up for my Mistress, but at least she doesn’t have to encourage them to go now.
