Wednesday 21st March 2012 – A reason not to take drugs!

Well I’ve been taken off my tablets. Apparently I was impossible to live with. After taking me off them my Mistress looked them up on the internet and apart from saying that they are not satisfactorily proven in human trials it says they can cause ‘mild-to-moderate mood swings, hostility, concentration problems, and hyperactivity’. Well they did! I’d just like to apologise to those around me who have had to suffer my behaviour. In particular I’m hoping that Megan will forgive me as she has been the one subjected to the hostility. It did say that in humans there can be an increased risk of suicidal actions, fortunately that is a line a dog does not normally go down. What it has made me think is why, when there are laws requiring human medication to come with an information sheet including what the side effects of medication can be, aren’t there laws protecting animals in the same way? It is easy to observe and report side effects. We don’t put things on just to get attention and with the exception of the time we got pet rabbits, I’m as mild mannered as they come when I’m not taking drugs. Now these drugs were given to me for legitimate health reasons, but if taking drugs can mess with your brain to the extent these have with mine it is a good reason to avoid any of the so called ‘recreational drugs’ as you just don’t know what they are doing to you. I’ve never felt inclined to try any of them before, but as sure as anything I will not be trying any of them in future. I’m also going to do some research on anything I’m prescribed before I start taking it. From the bottom of my heart, my advice to all you dogs out there is stay off the drugs!

  1. Oh poor Alfie – I’m pleased you’re off the drugs now so you can go back to your usual friendly self :o)

What was the name of the tablets so I can avoid them if the vet ever suggests I take them?
