Saturday 21st January 2012 – teething

I’ve been reading the back of the cereal packet and I’m glad I asked for a puppy and not an alligator for a pet. Aristotle’s teething problems pale into insignificance when compared to an alligator. With Ari I give him some of my chews to keep the peace and he happily gnaws on those for a few hours. When I forget to give them to him he gnaws on the side of the plastic bed or the table leg and then if he’s really pushed he’ll pick up one of his chew toys. With both of his sets of teeth he’ll have about 50 in his life. It seems that an alligator has between 2000 and 3000 teeth in the course of his or her life. That is between 40 and 60 times as much problem to cope with. That’s a lot of teeth. I said to Ari that just goes to show what happens if you don’t remember to floss.

I probably should have started by telling you that I’m jumping up and down with excitement. You know me, though, the jumping is in a very controlled fashion. I’ve had another 5 star review for my book ‘Alfie’s Woods’ on Amazon.

I’m so glad that people who are reading it are enjoying it so much. I enjoyed writing it and it’s great to have my woods immortalised. I miss walking there. Obviously they didn’t really belong to me, but we never used to meet anyone else so it often felt that way. We just used to meet the woodland animals who inspired the story. Most of the characters were based on our forest friends. To be fair, we didn’t know any weasels or beavers but the red squirrel, the hedgehog, the deer and the rabbit were all based on real animals. Oh and the buzzard. It was spooky the way he used to watch me. I’ve been asked if I really had an acorn fetish too and the truth is that I did. That is until I was told they weren’t good for dogs when reluctantly I had to attend Acorns Anonymous to help me give them up.
