We sat watching a film together yesterday. It is one that my Mistress considers as ‘research’ for her new book. Before the film started we had a long discussion about how 18 rated certificates applied to dogs. I argued that we were above all that and could be trusted to watch anything. On that basis the girls could cuddle up on the settee with us. I have to say that by the end of the film I had radically changed my opinion and concluded that I will never be old enough to watch an 18 movie. There were some very unpleasant bits. It wasn’t scary. My Mistress doesn’t like scary films, but there was bloodshed and carnage. It almost made me forget that I was trying to see if many dogs had starred in the film. As it turned out, once again that was a detail of the film that was ridiculously neglected. There were lots of dogs living amongst the poor on the streets of New York in the 1860’s and yet I only spotted one in the film. There were several fairly snooty looking dogs living with the rich, but not so many real ones amongst the poor. I do think that is the sort of detail that should have been authentic. We dogs are sadly neglected in our education. We wanted to see the reality of how other dogs lived.

I was almost forgetting to say a very big thank you to you all. Last month I had my highest ever readership with over 5,000 pages read in the month. I feel quite honoured that you join me so regularly for my little rambles. When I set out to choose a career as a puppy, five years ago, little did I think that my daily musings would become a career in themselves. I’m even making progress with the transfer to the new software and have done as far as July 2008. All things being equal we should go live in a month or two!
