We saw my granny for her birthday last night. I always think birthdays are rather fun, but then I haven’t had nearly as many as Granny has. I suppose you might get fed up with them after a while. I don’t think I’m supposed to say exactly how many Granny has had but it’s a lot more than my four!

Today we are meeting some old university friends of my Master and Mistress. They were my Master’s flatmates and they all left university twenty-five years ago. My Mistress has asked me to point out that she isn’t quite as old and it is actually only twenty-four years since she left university, but what’s a year between friends? It’s all right this reminiscing thing but it can be full of disappointment. The flats they all lived in have long since been knocked down to make way for a housing estate, so there is no point visiting them. The hall of residence that my Master lived in his first year there has also been knocked down. I can see a theme developing here. It’s also funny how differently you remember things. My Master said they should visit the places he went to regularly. He names a pub that as far as she remembers my Mistress never actually set foot in. Hearing them talking you would think they had actually been to completely different universities. There was one restaurant that they used to go to. It was my Mistress’s favourite. It was called ‘The American Food Factory’ but that closed many years ago and they can’t even remember exactly what building it was in. They used to do a cocktail called a ‘red delicious’ that my Mistress was rather partial to and the most amazing ice-cream desert called an ‘earthquake’. The way they described it made me wish I could go to it.
