It’s a bit like being at school, having to ask to be excused going for a walk. I just don’t feel like it again. It’s partly that my back isn’t as easy but I think if I’m being honest I’m just going through a lazy phase. I can’t say that bit when my Mistress asks if I’m ready for a walk, so I find myself coming up with excuses in the same way that kids do when they don’t want to do games at school. In all honesty by the time you reach the equivalent of 60 in human years you ought to be passed the need to come up with feeble excuses. I should just be able to say ’Not today, I’d prefer to have a nap.’ I know it’s in my best interests that she encourages me to go out and keeping fit is important at my age, but I just haven’t been in the mood. I ought to feel a little bit sorry for the others as they are being made to go for longer walks to compensate, as part of our Mistress’s get fit programme. Even Aristotle came home tired on Saturday and asking for Sunday to be a day of rest. He lost that battle! I guess it’s times like this that I miss Megan. She used to want to walk for miles which kept my Mistress out of wanting to take us all out for so long.
You will be pleased to know that the central heating has been turned on, at least for late at night and early in the morning. It means I don’t have to feel cold when I get up first thing, for which I am grateful. It has been pointed out to me that if I were more prepared to exercise when invited to then I wouldn’t feel the cold so much. There are moments when feigning deafness is the only solution.
