Saturday 12th October 2013 – The moment we’ve been waiting for

Parsnip SuccessNo, Shadow hasn’t started her season, I’m talking vegetable moments here. Yesterday my Mistress decided that the time was right to see how the root vegetables were doing and maybe eat one or two. She picked a carrot, which turned out to be the first one there will be any point slicing and which is bigger than a baby carrot. It’s not huge and won’t feed a whole rabbit but it’s better than the others so far. Then she picked two parsnips which were about the same size as the carrot and because she wanted to do roast parsnips she picked a third one. Well, it wouldn’t pull out. She has to dig the soil away to get the parsnip out of the ground. By her standards it was huge! Anyway she felt the need to take a photograph to prove it and positioned a serving spoon alongside to demonstrate its respectable size. This is her biggest organic gardening success and she will be talking about it until something better comes out of the ground. In my estimation that could be a very long time.

Aristotle is very excited. He heard my Master and Mistress talking about planning a trip to Switzerland in the spring to attend the breeding test there so that my Master can see it all at first hand. Anyway, he heard my Mistress saying that maybe they will just take him with them so that he could meet his father and see Switzerland. He’d be able to visit Megan too. He’s the only one of us that hasn’t been to Switzerland so it’s only right he should have the opportunity. I don’t like to tell him that I heard my Mistress saying she might put him through his ectopic ureter test while she is there, not because he is going to be breeding but to help in the study they are doing. At that point I was quite glad it was him going and not me. Still, it’s early days yet so it may not happen.
