Sunday 8th September 2013 – Megan is moving house

Well, my Mistress certainly listened when I explained how hard life had become. Since then she’s been keeping us apart, but yesterday she sat down with us all to explain that Megan is going to be moving. She’s going to Switzerland to be with her family. You should have seen the mixed emotions on her pretty little face. She said she’s going to miss my Mistress but can’t wait to see her family there. She misses the mountains. There really is nothing round here that comes close to the scenery where she started life. Once she’s been away from Shadow for a while and really settled back in she’s going to have another chance of having puppies of her own, so it’s all very positive. It’s just possible that if she manages to have puppies one of her little girl puppies will come back to live her. I said if that happened, please could she promise not to encourage the puppy to be nasty to me as I’m just a soppy old dog who wants a quiet old age. She smiled and said she thought she could do that. She’s got the most beautiful smile when she smiles. I know my Mistress will really miss her. Megan’s smile has been immortalised on our Club logo so we’ll always see her smiling at us. She will go when Shadow comes into season and my Mistress has to travel to Switzerland anyway. In the meantime I shall spend my time in another room, safely out of the way.

The apple harvest has taken place in the back garden. It took something in the region of three minutes to firstly pick up the eating apple which had both unceremoniously fallen onto the ground and then actually pick the eight cooking apples from the tree. It may not sound much but it’s eight more than we had last year. To be fair the trees were only planted last year so they are very young. There is a pear to be brought in, but it’s not quite ready and to be honest looking at it, even when it is no one is going to want to eat it. The blackberries aren’t doing too badly and we’re hoping there might be enough by the time they have all been collected for one lot of blackberry sorbet. I’m just hoping that the stewed apple is shared out evenly including me.

  1. Alfie, that’s a really tough decision, and very brave of your Mistress to make it…
I’m sure it’ll work out for the best for all of you!

  2. Thank you so much – not easy at all, but we hope it will mean she can have puppies after 3 failed attempts here – as she is not the alpha female. Hopefully a good result in the end.
