Monday 20th May 2013 – We’ve got carrots!

When I say ‘we’ve got carrots’ that is just a tiny exaggeration. We have carrot shoots. That means there are only the parsnips and squash to surface. It’s all very exciting when you start from the point where you are going to be astounded if anything grows, as you have no idea what you’re doing. The next job is to thin them out, but again from the standpoint of complete ignorance that is quite a scary proposition. I’m going to leave it to my Mistress but she’s looking about as clueless as me.

My master returned safely from his caving expedition and worryingly is now even keener than he was before. My Mistress has therefore given in to temptation and bought herself the new bicycle she’s been wanting for a long time. It’s not the sort of bicycle to cope with big hills but it is the sort of bike that will be nice for relatively gentle cycle rides. It has a comfy seat, which she says at her age is vital! It’s got a little basket on the front too but we’re all too big to fit in it. She is going to start by cycling to the shop in a nearby village when she needs to post something and then work up from there. It will be good exercise for her while she hasn’t got Megan for lovely long walks. Shadow is not so much fun to walk with and doesn’t need to go as far as Meg, so there is a gap in her exercise regime. The bicycle is due to fill the gap, but only on dry days! If it comes in time she wants to go out on it next Saturday when my Master goes down another cave.
