Wednesday midday – Basil the wrestling champion

Yesterday, Basil, who is one of the smallest, took on Britannia, who is one of the largest, in a puppy wrestling match. Poor Britannia, she’s a little sweetie. She didn’t  see him coming and was pinned to the floor before you could say ‘out for the count’. To give him his due, Basil did let her get up again, but only so he could jump on her for a second time.

Puppies Christmas Tree

The idea of a saucer of puppy food on its own was rejected by a committee of puppies. They said that they would only consider it if we made it creamy by mixing in some yoghurt and goats’ milk. Of course, softie that she is, my Mistress obliged rather than putting her foot down and telling them to eat it. We’ve dropped the baby rice from the mix and cut down on the goats’ milk. They have a little water added to make it the right consistency. In another day or so we’re going to cut out the baby food so that they just have the creamy puppy food. Then the milk will go and finally the yoghurt. They are doing ok and Shadow is joining them 3 times a day now. That will reduce again this weekend to twice a day and then mid next week to once so that they end up having a full 2 weeks without feeding from their mum before they go off to their new homes. Beija needs a little help today so she is going to have an extra feed with her mum after one of her other meals, but you won’t see that as it will be in the comfort of the settee. Basil may get an extra helping as well, just to give him a boost.

Dickens is back in the lead on weights. He added 170g to make 2840g. Britannia added 140g to reach 2800g, and Tucker got to 2800g by adding 120g. Basil, despite wrestling with Britannia, is now 2580g having added only 50g and Beija is 2510g having added only 40g, which is why a little helping hand will not go amiss. I know you shouldn’t have favourites, but my Mistress is utterly in love with little Beija. Funny how she always seems to bond with the smallest!
