Tuesday 28th April 2015 – I had a nightmare

The night before last I had a nightmare. I can’t remember what it was about but it really upset me. The first my Mistress knew of it was when I shot out of bed and was wandering round the bedroom feeling lost. She was great. She got up and took me back to my bed and then sat with me until I started to calm down and relax. I don’t remember ever having had one before. My dreams are normally of the nice variety involving open fields and rabbits and all my joints working in harmony without aching. When I got up in the morning everything was ok, so hopefully it won’t be something that happens very often. I did wonder if it was the thought of next week’s election. Of course I didn’t actually register to be a candidate in the end, I was too worried I might actually get elected, but I’m still campaigning for all the Pet Dogs Democratic Party issues. I read what the other parties said about what they would do for dogs in a feature in Dog World and I have to say it was not encouraging. None of them is addressing even the basic of issues. At worst they are claiming the iniquitous Dangerous Dogs Act as a success. It’s going to be a long struggle for the dog on the street whichever party is elected next week.

Over the last few days our Mistress has almost caught up with all the vegetable planting. The carrots and parsnips are in, although two lines of parsnips are looking a wee bit dubious and an alternative might replace them before it’s too late. The squash are in pots to germinate and the sweet potatoes are trying to get a hold on the window sill. Yesterday the peas went into pots and today is the turn of the window boxes on the summerhouse which are being given over to even more carrots. We still need to find somewhere for the fennel, but that’s about it for the vegetables then. Now we just need to remember to feed and water them so that they in turn can feed us – that’s the bit I’m looking forward to!
