Making friends

I was making some new friends yesterday. We went for a walk around the village and I met two other dogs. The first was a puppy and was very sweet. I was really gentle and she seemed impressed. She was a little black spaniel. Then I met an eighteen-month-old Standard Poodle. I wanted to abandon my walk and go to play, but Mum said I couldn’t. She had a ball thrower and ball and it would have been huge fun. Mum said it was too hot to be running about and besides she wouldn’t let me run so close to the crops. I forget myself when I’m playing and might just have run into them causing damage. Mum said that’s not fair to the farmers whose fields they are and I can see her point.

Drinking water

Mum took a bottle of water for us on our walk. She’s weird. She took the one bottle between us and said I had to drink from her cupped hand and not from the bottle. For some reason she hates it when I drink straight from the bottle and then she has to drink from where I’ve licked. I have absolutely no problem if she’s licked it so what’s the problem? Normally she takes my little bowl, but even then I prefer to have it from the bottle.

Getting worried

I’m getting a little worried that with everything else that has been going on around here, Mum might have forgotten my birthday which is on Monday. I’m going to be seven. It’s incredible to wonder where the years have gone. Officially it puts me into the ‘senior’ category for things like dog food. As if I could possibly be considered senior. It’s almost funny. I’m not sure if I should remind Mum or just wait to see if she remembers.
