Why us? – Thursday 4th November 2021

Why us?

Why us? That’s what I want to know. Just because Mum needed to go to the optician and the dentist why did she think we’d want to go along too? To be fair she did have to drive back up to York for both of them and it was too long to leave us home alone, but that’s not entirely the point. Shadow made clear at the start of the day that she didn’t want to get in the car. She sat her bottom down on the porch, glared at Mum and said ‘So drag me.’ I so wished I could have got away with doing that without being shouted at. Shadow’s reached the age where Mum has gone all soft on her and doesn’t get cross. Shadow was gently and lovingly carried to the car.

Park and Ride

We are getting to know the Park and Ride really well. ‘Here again then,’ I said as we pulled up. We know the routine. Mum gets out and gets our lunch ready and then we each eat in turn and go for a leg stretch before getting back in the car. At that point Shadow said she wasn’t feeling too good. Mum made her have a drink with her lunch but couldn’t do much else about it. Thankfully, the upset stomach waited until we got home again. Mum felt bad then and realised Shadow had meant what she’d said. Although, to be fair I think it was mainly the stress of travelling.

Feels like home

It’s funny, until yesterday the new house has not felt quite like home. Yesterday as we pulled back onto the drive I let out that sigh of relief you feel when you’re home and realised things had changed. What they say really is true, home is where you know which cupboard the biscuits are in – although by that token we’d all have moved in to the veterinary surgery by now.
