I must not bark in class – Friday 9th July 2021

I must not bark in class

I’m writing out a hundred times I must not bark in class. Strictly speaking it’s not in class. We dealt with that one years ago. It’s more all the time. I’m a bit edgy with all the changes. I said she should excuse me as I’m only picking up on how Mum’s feeling. She was not sympathetic to my argument. She said she thought we’d got past the whole bark if the phone rings, bark if the doorbell goes, bark for the sake of barking – thing. To be fair, we had. The day before yesterday Mum was so stressed that she barked back, well, she shouted anyway. Yesterday she remembered she was dealing with an Entlebucher. We just love an argument. Instead, she gave me the silent treatment. Nothing annoys us more than getting no response. It worked.

No way back

Yesterday we hit the point in selling the house that there is no way back. Mum has dashed all my lingering hopes that my bed could stay in exactly the same position and I didn’t need to pack the rest of my toys. I am excited about our new house and garden. I did really like it when I went, but I’m not looking forward to the bit in the middle, where I have to be apart from Mum. She’s promised everything will be fine, but I worry. I’m bound to.

She’s told me I’m in charge of the other two and need to look after them. It’s a big job, but I guess I can do that. Ari doesn’t think he needs looking after, but he would say that wouldn’t he? Shadow on the other paw is starting to recognise that she does need help with some things. She’s pretty old by our breed’s standards. She just seems young in our house as Alfie lived to be so old. On the whole she’s doing very well and it’s easy to forget she’ll be 12 and a half in under a month’s time.

  1. Good luck with all the chaos and upheaval you guys. What part of the country are you moving to?

    • At one point I got all excited because I thought we’d be moving to live not very far from you, but that didn’t work out. If all goes to plan we’ll be in Warwickshire. It had to be somewhere that as easy for travelling to all my human grandparents.

  2. Best of luck with the move Wilma. It will all be over before you know it. My trick when we moved was always to plant myself firmly in the car boot with all the stuff that didn’t fit in the moving truck and stay there- that way I figured Mum was not able to go without me. Barking a lot is a good strategy too- that way they always know where we are in the middle of all the boxes and cases.

    • Dearest Winston
How lovely to hear from you. How are you? We’ve been thinking about you.
I have to go into kennels for a time, so that’s not so easy, but I’m going to be brave.

      • Thank you Wilma, I am doing ok at the moment. I have to go to the vet once a week for treatment, and I am taking life a bit easier than before, but really apart from being sick a couple of times – and there are are rugs for that of course – I have been doing ok. The vet said I am anaemic, so mum gave me steak, but the vet explained afterwards that it is platelets, not iron that is the problem, so delicious though it was it is not a help. I have told mum enjoyment is as important as nutrition and I hoped that there would be more steak- and I think she agrees. She is bringing me to the animal rehabilitation centre next week to strengthen my back leg too, which is fun, but I wish Mum could come in too.I am looking forward to my holiday next month . We are going to a cottage right beside a lake up north and I can’t wait, because swimming is my tip top favourite activity. Good luck with the move, it will be so much fun to sniff out a new area. Lots of woofs Winston
