Flash of light
Shadow came in asking if the flash of light had been down to one of us. It’s been so long since we’ve had lightning that it came as a bit of a surprise to us all. We were having tea as we do on any normal day. It had begun to drizzle when Mum took me out to the toilet so I was as quick as possible. She can get really annoyed when I take all day and she’s getting wet. Then Ari went out and let’s be honest, it was raining so heavily they both needed umbrellas. He came in looking very bedraggled.
How bad can it get?
Finally, it was Shadow’s turn. The rain was even heavier, so the umbrella went up. There was Shadow in mid pee when there was an almighty flash of lightning and a clap of thunder. Well, Mum took the umbrella down again pretty sharpish and came out from under the trees. When they came in Shadow didn’t just look bedraggled, her coat was sticking out in all directions. I swear she looked as though I’d plugged her into the electrical socket.
Given Shadow’s hearing is not so good I don’t think she’d really grasped what was going on. She tried accusing Aristotle of turning the outside lights on to make her jump. Given he was still dripping wet, that wasn’t very likely.
Drying out
These are the sorts of times we really need a log fire burning in the grate so we can curl up in front of it and dry out. Mum was the wettest. She’d had to go out with all three of us. I didn’t have much sympathy. If she hadn’t been half an hour late feeding us we could have all stayed completely dry and watched it from indoors.
