Zellar Treat Dispenser
Today, Shadow is demonstrating the Zellar Treat Dispenser. You may remember it was one of her birthday presents. Mum bought it after dropping (and breaking) our old weighted bottom treat dispenser. When we gave it to Shadow and she didn’t know what it was she didn’t look too thrilled. That was then. Now, she loves it. She won’t stay outside longer than necessary at mealtimes in case there are any pieces of food still in the dispenser. She comes running back in to find it and can roll it around for ages checking. I’m jumping slightly ahead there though. Let’s go back to basics.
Pros and Cons
This is a very simply form of canine enrichment. Even Shadow can do it! It is easy to fill, and there are different settings to make it easier or harder to get the treats out. There is also, from a dog point of view, something very satisfying about the shape and the way it rolls. It is also fairly low priced. We paid just £13.99 which makes it great value for money.
On the downside, it is too small to fit a whole meal of food. Shadow has the overflow of hers in her snuffle mat. The switch to adjust how wide the food slot opens, is too easy to move. Shadow cheats and puts it to maximum when Mum isn’t looking. She goes a step further than that sometimes, as the top sometimes unscrews too easily so she just empties it out.

The Biggest Problem
The biggest problem is the overall size. It is a bit too small and gets stuck under the settee or side table much too easily. Shadow kicks up a lot of fuss when she loses it somewhere, even if it’s empty at the time. If it were a little bigger that wouldn’t happen. Mum has to get down on her hands and knees regularly to fish it out of odd corners. She’s found spiders cobwebs at the same time, so I suppose all is not lost.
Overall
Despite the problems it really is excellent value and Shadow absolutely loves it. On the odd occasion that Mum has put food straight into Shadow’s bowl, she looks at Mum with such disappointment that it’s heart breaking. It is definitely worth buying one for any dog. If Shadow can work it out then anyone can.
