Hound of the Baskervilles
Shadow has been auditioning to play the part of the hound of the Baskervilles. At least, that’s what it feels like living with her. She has always been a very insistent dog who knows her own mind. Wow betide anyone who leaves her out. It’s not Mum’s fault that Shadow can’t come upstairs with us at night at the moment. Shadow however is not happy and she is making her displeasure known. Friday night, Mum and I went to bed around 9pm. We like to read in bed together before we go to sleep. Shadow started howling just as we tried to settle down to sleep around 10pm.
Pampering to her demands
Never let it be said that Mum manages to stand firm in the face of a demanding dog. She got up and put her dressing gown on then went down to Shadow while I went to bed. She took Shadow out again and gave her another biscuit. Thankfully after only a little more grumbling Shadow settled down. However, at 4am the howling really began. Mum knew there was no hope of her shutting up, so she put her dressing gown on again and went down to Shadow. Shadow said she’d woken up and felt lonely and confused. Bah humbug. I know that dog – she knew exactly what she was doing. She just wanted some attention.
Long slow process
I suspect Shadow’s recovery is going to be a long slow process. Mum was already feeling fairly jaded and tired, so it’s not going to do her any good at all. It’s not as though she wants Shadow to feel left out, but there’s not a whole lot she can do. For the record, Shadow is not being a cooperative and easy patient during the day either. Mum says she’s always had a difficult streak. Let’s just hope she gets well soon!
