The Big Move – Monday 10th February 2020

The Big Move

Well, the big move has taken place and it is not going well. Because Alfie is now so much better, Mum decided she really needed to be able to sit at her desk and sleep in a bed. She can do all those things in the office, but not in the lounge. Alfie has really got to the point of feeling safe in the lounge and any sort of change when you have dementia is not easy to deal with. Now we just have to battle through how unsettled it is all making Alfie. He’s got his big ramp so he can get up to the office and Mum has put the gate back in place so he doesn’t try to go down on his own. She has taken plenty of bedding for him to choose between and now we just have to stay sane until he gets used to it all.

The best bit

The best bit about moving up to the office is that there will just about be room on the bed for me to join Mum. She seems to think she may get more sleep up there and that me being on the bed may not help with that, but how could she begrudge me just a little corner? I’m sure we’ll work something out. We usually do. It normally involves me looking adoring and her giving in.

Ari’s Claw

I forget to tell you that Aristotle tore one of his claws on Friday. There was blood everywhere. And I do mean everywhere! There was even some on the ceiling but we have no idea how he got it up there. It looked as though he and Shadow had been having one almighty fight. He’s a really good patient, letting Mum wash and bandage his paw, but you should see how sorry for himself he looks. He’s holding his paw up and demanding sympathy at every opportunity. Mum says she will have to take him to the vet this morning and I think we’re probably all pleased about that.
