News From Winston

We had news from Winston earlier in the week. Winston is our friend who lived in Australia and has now move to Canada. He’s finding life quite different over there and we thought you might like to hear about it.

Winston in Toronto

All is going well here in Canada. I’ve settled down well in Toronto. I enjoyed the snow most of the time, but there were a few really cold spells when I was worried about frostbite, for both me and my human. My human got some advice from NEMDA , that’s the American Club for our breed. Someone who already knew about these things kindly sent me information about when not to go out, and gauging how long to stay outside. I found that on the truly snowy days it was best to stay in the back garden. We lost a lot of balls in the deep snow, which only reappeared when the snow finally melted! We tried a couple of different protective paw socks and found ones that looked like balloons were the most effective and least likely to slip off. I also enjoyed a nightly Pawdicure of doggy protection cream to stop my paws drying out from the salt that is scattered all over the sidewalks when it’s icy.

Spring has arrived

Spring has arrived, and although it can still be a bit chilly, most of the time it’s fine. We’ve been exploring some of Toronto’s ravines which cut through the neighbourhoods, and run under bridges. There are Coyotes in there. I’ve heard that some may be a mix of wolf and Coyotes, but I am not sure if that is true. It’s amazing how much wildlife is here co-existing very close to humans. We are very near a lovely park, with an off leash area in woodland. The paths are fenced off from the trees to protect the delicate eco-system, and initially me and my human found this unappealing, however as time has passed I’ve enjoyed the sociability of meeting packs of dogs being walked by dog walkers in this area.

Agility

I found a place where I can do Agility on Saturdays. When we went to training in Sydney, which we did for 3 years, I barked loudly every time I arrived at the  venue, right through the weekly speech to all the club members. Every week. I was excited to be there. My human had treats so I was hoping she could be persuaded to part with some in the interests of peace!  The training here in Toronto is indoor, and I’ve been good and not barked… so far.

Anyway that’s all from our friend Winston at the moment. We’re so glad he’s enjoying life.

Have a great Saturday
