Carols
We haven’t had any Christmas carols this year yet. I was thinking about it as our Master and Mistress are off to sing carols on the village green this afternoon. Don’t worry, there’ll be plenty of other people there, you won’t be able to hear their dreadful voices. Anyway, it got me to thinking that our Mistress hasn’t had bad Christmas music playing or any Christmas carols. That in turn made me think about the special variations that Alfie has written over the years and I thought I’d try my paw at coming up with one for you.
O Little Dog
O little dog from Entlebuch,
You’re never still for long.
You run and leap and rarely sleep,
And bark and howl in song.
Yet in your brown eyes shineth,
An everlasting light,
You’ll guard your pack and watch their back,
Close by them all the night.
Hard work
That was the point I realised that writing carols can be very hard work and I may be best leaving it to Alfie. I don’t think I’m quite as naturally gifted in poetry as he is. I’m more of a philosopher and I must say I’m a better negotiator too. It’s good we each have our own strengths.
Santa Paws
I think we’re getting an early visit from Santa Paws this afternoon. I can’t say too much, but I know that Santa is coming to our village today and I think we might be getting our own special visit as part of it. Wilma wanted to go down to the Green, but our Mistress doesn’t like her being around mince pies and the humans will be eating some of those. I’m much happier that Santa will come to me here. I can’t wait to give him my list of things I’d like him to bring me on Tuesday. I’ve written them all down so he doesn’t forget.

Hi there Ari, I love your Carol it is lovely to have one especially for our breed! I am not much of a singer myself. My Mum is not bad and I never hear Dad sing. I prefer to be in charge of barking. The preparations are underway here. I think they are off to Tescos this morning for last minute things – Good Luck is all I can say. They could be gone sometime which gives me some time to rest and relax. Enjoy your day. Love Dickens X
Don’t go complimenting Aristotle, it goes to his head. Our Mistress hates supermarket shopping at the best of times, so good luck to your humans
Have a lovely Christmas
Alfie
Hahahaha, love the carol, Ari, never mind what Alfie says.
Anyway, hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and New Year,
Lots of love, hugs and purrs from Val, Mark and Niamh the Cat. ?
Thank you.
See Alfie, I can do just as well as you!
Happy Christmas to all of you too.

Please, could you suggest to my mummy to sing something else… She has been singing ‘O little dog…’ (both melodies, she googled it) for too long now! Sometimes she just hums but I would prefer she was singing about and/or with me…
She heard me a little the other day and changed to the melody to ‘God rest you merry gentlemen’ but then discovered she could sing ‘O little dog…” on that tune too, with a little tweaking…
Please, help me! I know Christmas is soon over but I don’t know how much more a cat can take. I liked it better the other year when she was singing ‘Gloria in excelsis Deo’ together with me even if I was mostly worrid she was sick in some way. Best of all: We only sang it once… to record the whole thing. I’ve heard you sing as well sometimes.
Thanks for helping a poor cat. I wish you all a very happy 2019!

Dear Francis
What could be better than singing ‘O Little Dog’? We wouldn’t want her to switch to something from Cats instead. Although to be fair Mum loves the original poems rather than the musical version. Perhaps you could write your own song and send it to me and we can see if we can get our Mum singing it.
