I know it’s not normally me on a Saturday, but as Ari and Wilma have gone off to play for the weekend and I’m here without them. I’m being a bit demanding, but it makes such a nice change to have our Mistress all to myself. Well, obviously there is Shadow to contend with but most of the time she is not in the office. I’m still not feeling too good and where my eye has been weeping my fur is quite matted, but I’m not happy letting our Mistress clean it as it’s still hurting. Oh, she’s trying to be gentle, but you know how it is when things are really tender.
We have absolutely no plans for today, which at my age is just how I like it.
Shadow has been listening to Christmas music again. The funny thing is that whenever there is music with bells playing she thinks it’s the doorbell and gets confused. I’ve suggested she changes the channel she’s listening to, but she says it’s quite jolly and besides which she likes a good bark.
One of the things I’ve realised as I am getting older and a little more infirm is that when I developed all my political policies I may not have paid enough attention to the needs of an elderly dog. There are so many things that can be required to help a dog stay in his own home. Quite apart from that, it really has shown me that our prescriptions should be free. There must be many dogs out there struggling to pay for their medication. Come to that, we should receive a winter fuel allowance to make sure our humans heat our houses to a high enough temperature. All these things are important and no one is doing anything about it. I think I need to talk to Aristotle about him taking a bigger role in campaigning.
Have a happy Saturday

Alfie’s Diary – the Book as well as our other books are available HERE
Hi Alfie, I like being the only dog too sometimes. It does not happen very often these days as my mates are getting old and like to be with Mum. Well, I am pleased to say that Mum`s foot is almost fully recovered. She hit the problem with all sorts of ideas which amazingly worked. She can get shoes on even though they are ancient and has been able to do some short walks. I had an interesting time yesterday. I went for a massage! Not one in a spa with champagne and fluffy towels but one designed for dogs. I must say I did not know what to expect but I have to admit I rather enjoyed it.
The lady was nice and she found some of my muscles were tight. With magic fingers she has made a great difference. The good news is she wants to see me again after Christmas. If you get the chance do have one. We are all pleased your eye is getting better. Cheers mate Dickens X
I’m so glad your Mum is going ok, Dickens. It’s no fun when you hurt yourself.
I definitely think I need a doggy spa day. I know our Mistress did look at that for me, but concluded it was probably not a good idea as I’m not that happy to meet strangers anymore. Perhaps I’ll ask her to have another look.
Lots of love
Alfie
