Wednesday 26th October 2016 – A cone free day

Oh you can’t believe how good it felt yesterday to go without the dreaded cone. I didn’t knock everything over. I was allowed to go upstairs. I was allowed in other rooms and enjoyed rummaging around in the garden. It was like being a puppy again. Our Mistress still made me have a quiet day so I didn’t lick too much, but today she’s said I can start to get back to normal and when she goes to the vet tomorrow she’s going to take the cone back and I’ve said I never want to see it again. She has given it a good scrub first so that it’s clean again. As long as nothing goes wrong, I shall be going swimming next week and I can start to build my strength up again properly. She has even said if it stays reasonable whether she might let me have just a little game of ball outside.

On the bed at last

It’s the little things you miss when you’re incapacitated. Like licking all the crumbs off the floor and being able to stick your head right inside the dishwasher. There are the more obvious ones like climbing up onto the bed at night and actually fitting in my own usual bed.

I did slightly overdo my celebration yesterday morning. I swallowed my chew too eagerly and then ended up being sick all over the rug. The worst part was that it meant I felt really hungry by teatime. I really must pace myself.

I can’t believe how light everywhere seems without my eyes being shielded by the cone. I know I’ll be back to being used to everything in a day or two, but just at the moment it’s all very novel and, dare I say it, exciting. I did manage to decline the game of chase that Wilma invited me to take part in. There’s only so much a boy is ready to do on his first cone free day!

    • Thank you. It’s funny, I’ve got rather used to my corner of the kitchen and quite like it here. It’s better without the cone though!
