Thursday 22nd September – Sort of good news

Well, I did let our Mistress change some of my dressings on her own yesterday and I was also better behaved at the vet. I had to have blood taken and they couldn’t get it from my leg so had to take it from my neck. Then I got a haematoma on the site they’d tried to take it from on my leg so ended up with another bandage.

At last there is some sign of improvement in my wounds. I’m still on antibiotics and they still need dressings, but tomorrow I shall have the rest of my stiches out and I may be able to go without the dressings, which I would really appreciate. I’m still going to have to wear a collar for another week or so until everything is completely healed but they are now going in the right direction, so as long as I don’t do anything silly things are improving.

We’ve had the results of the tests and they are a bit mixed. There’s good news and not so good news. The two on my elbow were not cancerous and so were nothing to worry about. The ones under both my armpits have now been checked too and both appear to be fatty lumps so again no concern. However, the one on my paw is not so straightforward. That was a possible low grade sarcoma, which is a type of cancer. On the bright side, it is not completely confirmed as one and if it is being low grade makes things better. On the down side, where it is made removing it hard, so we now need to monitor the site to make sure it doesn’t come back. Whilst it’s an odd thing to be happy about, overall we’re quite relieved as the outcome could have been much worse and now we just want to get back to some sort of normal.

Thank you for all your love and thoughts,

Alfie

  1. Great news Alfie. Well done for being so brave. We are very proud of you. Sending lots of woofs, tail wags and love from us all here. Dickens XXXXXX

  2. That’s great news, Alfie! Hope your mistress can relax a little now. Hector had a low grade one on his tail about four years ago so we just have to check him over every now and again. Aren’t our Vets marvellous ?X

    • Thank you. Yes our vets are wonderful. I’m surprised they’re still talking to me after how difficult I’ve been! I shall ask my Mistress to check my paw regularly, once I’ve got over it being messed with!

  3. Great news, Alfie – and you will be healed and the cone off in no time now. And mostly it *is* good news, apart from just having to watch the one on your paw for a while! So go and put your paws up for a bit! Hugs xxx
